Gemstones or Ratans are known for their beauty throughout centuries and have captivated the hearts of humans worldwide. Since ancient times, these gemstones naturally formed in the Earth’s crust are also known to be the bearer of positive energies. It is believed that these gemstones have powerful energies that can transform the life of the wearer and ward off negative energies.
Some of these gemstones are more powerful than the other. As per Vedic astrology, there are nine gemstones that are connected to the astrological nine planets, Navgrah, and are called Navratans. These gems are highly auspicious and said to be the most potential ones with immense powers.
But to reap the benefits of the Navratans, it is necessary to energize them before wearing them or using them. In this blog, we have mentioned the proper Pran Prathistha or Vedic pooja process of the Navratans.
What are Navratans?
As per astrology, the nine gemstones which are the most dynamic ones are called Navratans. These nine gems are Diamond (Heera), Ruby (Manik/Manikya), Emerald (Panna), Blue Sapphire (Neelam), Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj), Pearl (Moti), Red Coral (Moonga), Hessonite (Gomed) and Cat’s Eye (Lehsunia).
Energization Process of Navratans
The energization process of the Navratans, famously called the Vedic pooja process is a sacred ritual that purifies these gemstones, removes any negative energies they might have, invokes the divine energies, and links the energies of the gem to the wearer. It activates the gemstone and so it is important to perform this ritual before wearing a Navaratan ring, bracelet, or Pendant.
Please note that it is essential to wear a gemstone in these three forms only, most preferably it is recommended to wear them as a ring. This is so that in these forms the gem keeps in touch with your skin and its energies keep flowing through you.
Step 1: Preparation
Before you start the ritual it is essential that you prepare for it and keep some things ready. Also, you should know which gemstone is supposed to be worn in which metal and on which day you should perform the ritual for a particular gemstone:
Things You Need -
- A glass or metal bowl
- Gangajal
- Ghee, Sugar, Raw Milk, Honey, Curd
- Fresh flowers, Incense sticks, and camphor
- Mantra Written On A Paper (Of the Particular Gemstone You Are Wearing)
Navratan Gem | Day | Metal |
Ruby | Sunday | Gold, Copper, Panchdhatu or Ashtadhatu |
Diamond | Friday | Gold |
Yellow Sapphire | Thursday | Gold, Panchdhatu, Ashtadhatu |
Pearl | Monday | Silver |

Blue Sapphir | Saturday | Silver, Gold or Panchdhatu |

Step 2: Cleansing the Gemstones
On the auspicious day of wearing the gemstone, in the Bhram Muhrat, you should get a bath and then cleanse your gemstone jewelry.
- Physical Cleansing - First, cleanse the gemstone physically to remove any dust or impurities. Just run it with clean water and pat dry with a clean cloth.
- Spiritual Cleansing - Place the gemstone in a bowl and then pour the Panchamrit in it one by one. Leave it for 15 to 30 minutes and then rinse it clean with Holy water.
Step 3: Invoking Divine Energies
Once you have purified your gemstone jewelry, you should perform the Vedic Pooja process to invoke the divine energies and link those higher powers to the wearer, that is, you.
Sit in your temple on a mat and keep your gemstone in front of you. Offer some fresh flowers to god and to the gemstone, light some incense sticks and camphor, and pray to god. With pure intention and faith, pray to god, set your intentions straight, and then chant the mantra of the gem 108 times. The Mantra of the gem is one of its ruling planets which will bring the blessings of the planet to the wearer. Once you are reciting the mantra for the last time, take your gemstone and wear it.
If you are wearing the gemstone as a ring, make sure you are wearing it in the right finger.
Navratan Gem | Ruling Planet | Finger to Wear It In | Mantra |
Ruby | Sun | Ring finger | Om Hrim Sum Suryay Namah |
